Laurie Breedlove Barker, 80, a lifetime resident of Granville County passed away Monday, March 20, 2017 at his home.

A native of Granville County, he was the son of the late Charles Macon Barker, Sr and Mabel Hart Barker. He was a lifetime member of Salem United Methodist Church and was owner-operator of Barker Service Station and Wrecker Service. Laurie was in the National Guard being stationed at Fort Jackson.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Eakes Funeral Home Chapel in Oxford by Rev. John Yount. Burial will be in Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Surviving are his daughter, Sherri Barker Newton and husband, John Newton, Jr “Curt”, a sister, Celeste Barker Knott of Raleigh, four granddaughters, Shannon Barker, Brooke Barker, Brittany Chandler and Maci Gray, a grandson, David Jaiden Barker and two great grandsons, Brayden Blackwell and Cooper Blackwell. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Allgood Barker, a son, David Laurie Barker and brothers, Charlie, Dan, Jerry, Ollie, Doug and Roy Barker.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 22, 2017 from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and at other times at the home.

MARK AND I WERE SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT THE PASSING OF YOUR FATHER,MY GRANDAUGHTER SHELBY,PRIVETTE CRYED WHEN WE TOLD HER ABOUT UNCLE CORN PASSING,THE GOOD OLD BARKER BOYS ARE ALL TOGATHER NOW HAVING A BLAST. HE WAS A GOOD MAN ,YES HE HAS HIS WINGS NOW.

I'm very sorry to hear about your dad. Have been trouugh the same thing recently. Your dad was a wonderful person. Always kind and could put a smile on my face in a minute. I have many fond memories of him and your mom at the service station. He will be missed but he left me with good memories. Your family is in my prayers.

MR,BARKER WOULD COME BY THE HOUSE AND SET AND TALK TO MARK DURING THE SUMMER, SHELBY WOULD ASK MR,BARKER IF SHE COULD RIDE WITH HIM ON THE 4 WHEELER, HE SAY COME ILL  LET YOU DRIVE  HE WOULD ALLWAYS MAKE TIME FOR HER TOO RIDE AND NEVER SAID NO ,HE WAS A VERY KIND MAN WE WOULD SAY GOOD OLD SOUL ,HE WOULD HELP YOU ANY WAY HE COULD, WE WILL MISS  HIM BUT GOD WAS READY FOR HIM TOO COME HOME ONE DAY HE SAW ME OWN THE LAWRN MOOR CUTIING GRASS AND HE KNEW I WAS SCARED TO GO OWN THE HILL HE GOT ON HIS LAWRN MOORE AND START HELPING ME CUT  HE KNEW I WAS SCARED THAT I WOULD TURN OVER, HE TOUCHED SO MANY PEOPLE HE IS RESTING HIGH ON THE MOUNTAIN .
